ERRIGO RECEIVES NEW ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS FOR 2006

Assemblyman Joe Errigo (R,C-Conesus) today announced his committee memberships for the 2006 legislative session. The appointments were made by Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco (R,C,I-Schenectady-Saratoga).

Errigo will continue serving as ranking minority member on the Assembly Children and Families Committee, which oversees a wide array of child service programs throughout New York.

“I’m very pleased Minority Leader Tedisco decided to keep me in place as ranking member of the Children and Families Committee,” said Errigo. “This is an extremely important committee that develops and evaluates a wide variety of legislation, covering everything from child welfare to juvenile justice courts.”

Errigo also gains seats on the Housing and Banks committees. The Housing Committee is responsible for legislation concerning housing development and preservation. It has jurisdiction over rent regulations and all legislation that amends certain volumes of the New York State Consolidated Laws.

The responsibility for reviewing and initiating legislation that affects financial institutions that operate in or affect New York state rests with the Assembly Banks Committee. The committee’s purview includes the Banking Law, the General Obligations Law, the Uniform Commercial Code and the Personal Property Law.

“These are two extremely important committees to the everyday operation of New York state,” concluded Errigo. “Banking is ever-important as New York is the financial capital of the United States and one of the great financial centers of the world. And in the Housing Committee, we oversee such things as rent regulation – thousands of New Yorkers depend on us to establish fair practices and standards.”
