ASSEMBLYMAN ERRIGO ANNOUNCES JOB CREATION INITIATIVES

Plan includes creation of 'EZ Main Street' and 'Empire Superzone' programs

New York state Assemblyman Joseph A. Errigo (R-Conesus) and members of the Assembly Republican legislative conference unveiled a new initiative that would enlarge the successful 'Empire Zone' program.

Errigo highlighted two parts of the conference's ambitious "Roadmap to Renewal" 2004 legislative agenda that will give New York an edge in attracting business. In line with New York's most effective job expansion tool, the 'Empire Zone,' the creation of a new statewide Superzone would give the state an advantage in national job competition. A similar program, called EZ Main St., would target smaller businesses to revitalize downtown areas and stimulate growth. Assemblyman Errigo said, "This is a progressive plan to reshape the base of New York's economy. From the small business on Main Street to the industrial parks, this plan extends our most successful stimulus program to benefit every economic sector of the state."

The proposed Superzone would provide flexibility to use Empire Zone tax breaks and incentives for the creation of new jobs anywhere in the state. The EZ Main St. initiative would require planners to include underdeveloped downtown areas within the boundaries of new Empire Zones. Funding would be offered for facility rehabilitation and other improvement projects. In addition, the NY Main Street Center division of Empire State Development would target the needs of small business.

"In this new year, we must be committed to the revival and resurgence of New York's businesses," Assemblyman Errigo said. "I am convinced that these initiatives will strengthen a proven program and further the growth of New York's economy."
