ERRIGO ANNOUNCES SUNY MARITIME COLLEGE TUITION ASSISTANT SCHOLARSHIP
One student from the region will receive 2-year scholarship

New York state Assemblyman Joseph Errigo (R,C-Conesus) today announced that he will be nominating a star student for the new Cadet Appointment Program Scholarship.  The program, created last year, provides a two-year full tuition scholarship for students attending the State University of New York Maritime College.

Errigo said that he is fortunate to have the chance to nominate an excellent student for this scholarship.  “I am sure that the applicants for this scholarship will be top-quality young men and women, which will make this decision difficult.  However, I look forward to this opportunity and encourage students to take advantage of this valuable opportunity,” he said.

The lawmaker noted that the SUNY Maritime program is geared specifically for the Regiment of Cadets.  Individuals participating in the program receive licensure through the U.S. Coast Guard.  Applicants must submit the Maritime College application and the Cadet Appointment Program application to SUNY Maritime College by March 30.

Qualified students must meet the following requirements:

  • Score at least 1200 on the SAT and have at least an 85 grade point average.

  • Be a first-time college student and a resident of New York state for at least one year prior to August the enrollment start date.

  • Be a U.S. citizen.

  • Demonstrate leadership skills though extracurricular activities, school and community participation.

The lawmaker added that students must maintain a 2.5 grade point average while at the college to continue receiving the benefits of the scholarship.

“The Cadet Appointment Program provides a strong foundation for our brightest young people to secure first-class career possibilities, in addition to receiving a top-rate education.  I expect to review applications from some outstanding candidates for this excellent opportunity,” Errigo said.

To apply for the Cadet Appointment Program Scholarship, students should contact the office of admissions at (718) 409-7220.  Additional information can be obtained from the college’s Web site at www.sunymaritime.edu .
