ERRIGO URGES CONSUMERS TO 'GET SMART' ABOUT INSURANCE
Consumers looking for an objective
source of information on insurance companies and the types of coverage
offered can contact the New York state Insurance Department for assistance,
Assemblyman Joseph Errigo (R,C-Conesus) today said.
Errigo said the Insurance Department, through its "Get
Smart About Insurance" public awareness effort, is urging New Yorkers to
double-check their insurance coverage. He said a national study shows that
many Americans do not fully understand the details of their insurance
policies.
According to Errigo, the agency advises consumers to
schedule a yearly insurance check-up with their agents to review every
policy and to look for areas of too much or too little coverage. A review
also should be undertaken whenever there is a major change in circumstances,
such as the purchase of a new home or car, or the birth or adoption of a
child.
Errigo said the department offers free shopping guides
outlining New York's insurance laws and regulations, and provides
information that includes premium comparison reports, policy coverage
options and insurer contacts.
"I urge those consumers who want more information on
their insurance coverage to contact the state Insurance Department," Errigo
said.
More information is available by calling the state
Insurance Department's toll-free number at (800) 342-3736, or visiting the
agency's Web site at
