ASSEMBLYMAN ERRIGO ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR WIRELESS EMERGENCY CALL SERVICES Monroe, Livingston and Ontario Counties to receive E-911 resources Assemblyman Joseph A. Errigo (R,C-Conesus) announced that the New York state 911 Board approved more than $51.4 million in Expedited Deployment Funding grants to 47 counties and the City of New York. This first round of funding has been granted for the purpose of purchasing and upgrading equipment related to Enhanced 911 (E911) services. “Increased volume on the state’s wireless network has necessitated the use of elaborate answering and locating systems. It is encouraging to finally see the disbursement of these funds after numerous attempts to upgrade New York’s E911 services,” said Assemblyman Errigo. Emergency response personnel across the state have struggled with a dramatic increase in calls made from wireless phones. The use of existing equipment in locating the caller has proved inaccurate and deployment of emergency personnel to the location has also met with little success. The purpose of the Expedited Deployment Funding is to create a response network that is both accurate and timely. All three counties within the 130th Assembly district will receive funding. Livingston County will receive $95,483, Monroe County has been approved for $820,762 and Ontario County will receive $60,522. Grants will be distributed to counties over the next several months pending review and approval of the State Dormitory Authority, Attorney General and State Comptroller. “We must afford wireless phone users the same safety and emergency response that traditional callers receive. Wireless users have diligently paid state fees and it is time they received something in return,” said Assemblyman Errigo.
