ERRIGO ANNOUNCES STATE FUNDING FOR FARMERS' MARKETS
Assemblyman Joseph Errigo (R,C-Conesus) today announced
the availability of funding for the construction, reconstruction,
improvement, expansion or rehabilitation of farmers' markets in New York
state. The grants are offered by the state Department of Agriculture and
Markets.
Assemblyman Errigo explained that eligible entities
include municipal, public benefit and not-for-profit corporations, regional
market authorities and agricultural cooperatives organized pursuant to the
Cooperative Corporations Law. For-profit entities and individuals are not
eligible to apply for program funding.
"This is a great program for our community, our farmers
and consumers," Errigo said. "This funding will allow our local farmers'
markets to continue providing fresh produce and other foods for our
families."
Errigo said eligible costs include:

Salaries and wages

Fringe benefits
-
Contractual services (professional, technical,
operational)

Travel (at state government rates - 2004 rate is
$0.375/mile)

Supplies and materials
-
Communication (telephone, postage, printing, etc.)

Equipment and structures.
According to Errigo, grant
amounts for each project cannot exceed $50,000. Grant recipients must
match the awards with equal amounts of cash, in-kind services or other
resources such as indirect and overhead costs. Proposals for funding in
fiscal year 2004-05 must be received by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28.
