ERRIGO DECLARES VICTORY FOR TAXPAYERS
$1.7 Billion in Real Property Tax Relief a Reality

     Assemblyman Joe Errigo (R,C-Conesus) announced a major victory for New York state residents today. An agreement has been reached establishing a historic $1.7 billion in real property tax relief, as well as nearly $4 billion in additional tax cuts over the next two years.

     “This is a clear victory for the people of New York,” said Errigo. “As a state that taxes its residents 72 percent above the national average, this much needed relief couldn’t have come any sooner.”

Among the items in the agreement:

  • $805 million in property tax rebates this year and $960 million in 2007-08,totaling $1.765 billion;

  • Providing $72 million in cost-of-living increases in senior STAR for this year and next - STAR rebates will range from $300 to $800, depending on the homeowner's age and particular property tax levy;

  • Elimination of the State sales tax on clothing under $110 dollars; Several other measures,  including a child tax credit of $300 for children ages 4-17, ultimately accumulating to approximately $4 billion worth of tax cuts over 2 years.

     “I’m proud to be a part of this historic agreement,” concluded Errigo. “The proposed agreement should ultimately lead to an on-time state budget for the second year in a row and money back in the pockets of taxpayers.”
