ERRIGO ANNOUNCES FIRE SAFETY ESSAY CONTEST
Assemblyman Joseph Errigo (R,C-Conesus) is urging
students in grades five through eight to participate in the 10th annual Fire
Prevention Essay Contest sponsored by the Firemen's Association of the State
of New York (FASNY).
"I encourage all students in grades five through eight
to enter this essay writing contest offered by FASNY. The essay contest
allows students to demonstrate their knowledge of fire safety methods,"
Errigo said.
According to Errigo, students should discuss all of the
following topics as part of their essays: the causes, methods and techniques
to prevent or eliminate fire and burns; the importance of correct fire
safety; how injuries, death and loss of property can be prevented; and how
the community and schools can work together to ensure that these techniques
and procedures are known and followed by the general public.
Each essay must be one typewritten, double-spaced page
or two neatly handwritten, double-spaced pages in length. A back page of
each essay should have the following information: student's name and grade;
teacher's name; and the school name, address, county, phone number, and
school or teacher e-mail address. Only one essay per student may be
submitted.
Essays must be postmarked on or before Friday, Dec. 17
and sent to FASNY Fire Prevention Essay Contest, P.O. Box 205, Highland
Falls, NY 10928-0205. Further information can be obtained by visiting the
FASNY Web site at
www.fasny.com, or by calling June Gunza at (845) 446-3007.
A panel of judges will choose one first-, second- and
third-place winner from each grade level. First-place winners will receive a
plaque and a check from FASNY, while second- and third-place winners will
receive plaques. Notification of winners at the sectional level are to be
